Small Business Recovery and Continuity Fund
To help small businesses through the impact of COVID-19, the Cities of Clear Lake and Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, and the North Iowa Corridor EDC have launched the Small Business Recovery & Continuity Fund for companies in Cerro Gordo County. Businesses who have experienced business disruption and revenue losses will be eligible for grants up to $5,000 to help ensure business continuity. This assistance will provide businesses with immediate, short-term cash flow that can be deployed for a variety of uses; including working capital, inventory, lease/mortgage payments, etc. United Way of North Central Iowa is partnering with the North Iowa Corridor EDC to help individuals looking to donate to support this fund an easy, tax-deductable way to help support small business and keep north Iowa Strong.
CARES Act
The CARES Act has made your charitable contribution more important than ever. The CARES Act creates a $300 "nonitemizer" deduction for 2020.
The deduction:
- Is in full effect as of Friday, March 27, 2020, and will apply to donations made for all of 2020
- Only for people who do not itemize their taxes
- Donors who itemize their taxes are eligible for the existing charitable deduction
- Only for cash donations (not in kind and not for stocks)
- Can be used by the charity for any purpose (not limited to COVID-19 relief efforts)
